On November 8, the American Studies Department was pleased to host a guest lecture on the topic “We Fly to Metropolis”: The Fall and Rise of an American City by Dr. Barbara Nelson, University of Bucharest. The lecture on Detroit’s recent history was followed by a screening of the documentary film Searching for Sugar Man (2012).

 

The event was part of American Culture Week at the University of Bucharest, which was held on November 5-9, 2018.

On November 6, the American Studies Department was pleased to host a presentation of the Fulbright Award programs and independent study opportunities in the US, offered by Corina Danaila, Romanian Program Coordinator, Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission, and Mihaela Doaga, Educational Adviser, Fulbright Educational Advising Center. The presentation addressed the Fulbright Student Award and independent applications to graduate programs in the US, with a focus on the application steps, as well as questions of funding and school selection.

 

The event was part of American Culture Week at the University of Bucharest, which was held on November 5-9, 2018.

On November 5, 2-4 pm, the American Studies Department was pleased to host the Opening Ceremony of the American Culture Week at the University of Bucharest, with the participation of Prof. Sorin Costreie (Vice-Rector, University of Bucharest), Scott A. Reese (Cultural Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy in Romania), and Prof. Octavian Roske (Head of the English Department, University of Bucharest).

 

The opening ceremony was followed by a guest talk on the topic U.S. Political Institutions by Scott A. Reese, Cultural Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy in Romania.
