EVENTS: Talk by Mihaela Dragan

On December 11, 2018, the American Studies Department was honored to host a guest lecture by Mihaela Dragan, actress, playwright, and co-founder of Giuvlipen, the first Roma feminist theater company in Romania. Dragan offered an overview of Giuvlipen's productions, from the documentary play Del Duma/ Tell Them About Me! (2013) to the recent Kali Tras (2018), the first theatrical exploration of the Roma Holocaust on the Romanian stage. Throughout the session, Dragan highlighted the company's two-fold commitment to address some of the most pressing concerns of the Roma community (in particular, those of Roma women), while experimenting with aesthetically compelling vocabularies and various performative modes.

The talk was followed by a Q & A session with the 3rd year students in the American Studies program.
