EVENTS: Luisa Boyarski Talk

The Center for American Studies at the University of Bucharest has the pleasure of hosting a guest lecture entitled “Philanthropy and Social Change,” offered by Luisa Boyarski (assistant director of the Center for Public & Nonprofit  Leadership (CPNL) at Georgetown University). The event will be held on 16 May 2017, at 12 in Sala de consiliu.


Bio: Luisa Boyarski, Ph.D. is the Assistant Director of Georgetown University’s Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership (CPNL) and Assistant Research Professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy. She is involved in developing and executing the Center’s many executive education and customized programs, coordinating its various speaker series, and representing the Center at Georgetown University and in the broader community. Dr. Boyarski frequently conducts workshops and gives keynote addresses on a variety of NGO management and leadership topics to international delegations. She has conducted in-country trainings in Colombia, Panama, China and Mongolia. She also provides workshops on civic engagement in the Bureau of Near East Affairs’ Student Leaders Program and has co-taught an undergraduate course on Philanthropy and Social Change. Through her role at CPNL, Dr. Boyarski has served on the advisory board of the Nonprofit Roundtable’s Future Executive Directors Fellowship in 2008 and 2012. In 2007, she conducted research on emerging nonprofit leaders and the need for undergraduate courses targeted at promoting their development. Prior to working at CPNL, Dr. Boyarski was the Executive Director of a D.C. based nonprofit working on global warming prevention with Arctic indigenous people. As Executive Director she helped the nonprofit gain its 501(c)3 status, set up its management and fundraising systems, and developed media trainings for its colleagues in the Arctic. She also served on the development team of the Government Accountability Project, a nonprofit focused on whistleblower protection.  Dr. Boyarski received her Ph.D. in Comparative Government from Georgetown University, with a research focus on the role of nonprofit coalitions in public policy advocacy.
