EVENTS: Tom Cousineau Guest Lecture

The Center for American Studies at the University of Bucharest had the pleasure of hosting a guest lecture entitled “The Master Manole Complex: F. Scott Fitzgerald and his Gatsby,” offered by Dr. Thomas Cousineau, Professor of English (Emeritus) at Washington College. Part of Dr. Cousineau’s broader research project The Séance of Reading: Uncanny Designs in Modernist Fiction, the lecture examined the overlooked affinities between F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby and the famous Romanian folktale of Master Manole (through the lens of Mircea Eliade's discussion of the latter).

The event was held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Council Room from the building of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures on 7-13 Pitar Mos St.
